Article: A conscious & sustainable fashion brand but what about Black Friday sales?

A conscious & sustainable fashion brand but what about Black Friday sales?

This year, Baked Clay London is to participate in Black Friday sales for the very first time! & yes this is our very first sale. As part of our debut sale, we aim to expand our brand’s reach while staying true to our core values. We’re excited to connect with more customers, introduce them to our sustainable products, and continue growing our community.

For sustainable brands, participating in Black Friday sales can be a delicate balance. However, there are significant reasons why it’s important for them to engage thoughtfully.

Firstly, Reaching a Wider Audience. Black Friday attracts massive consumer attention. By participating, sustainable brands can reach new, broader audiences and introduce them to sustainable options. It’s an opportunity to educate customers about eco-friendly choices and grow their customer base.

Secondly, Competing with Conventional Brands. Many mainstream brands dominate Black Friday with aggressive discounts. By abstaining, sustainable brands risk losing out to less eco-friendly competitors. Offering sustainable options at a competitive price can help shift consumer behaviour towards more responsible consumption

Thirdly, Building Customer Loyalty and Trust. For some customers, a brand’s participation (or lack thereof) in Black Friday can be a dealbreaker. When done transparently and with clear communication, sustainable brands can demonstrate that they value accessibility and inclusivity without compromising their values.

Fourthly, Promoting Conscious Consumerism. Sustainable brands can use Black Friday as a platform to advocate for mindful purchasing. Instead of overconsumption, brands can promote deals that encourage consumers to buy durable, quality products that last longer, reducing waste in the long term.

Fifthly, Supporting Ethical Supply Chains. Even during high-volume sales periods, sustainable brands maintain fair wages and ethical practices. Participating in Black Friday allows them to emphasise these values, showing that ethical supply chains and responsible practices can coexist with market demand.

Sixthly, Encouraging Responsible Discounts. Sustainable brands can avoid the “race to the bottom” in pricing by focusing on intentional promotions—such as discounts on long-lasting clothing& products. This way, sales align with sustainability principles

Seventhly, Building Financial Resilience. Black Friday is one of the highest sales days of the year. For small sustainable businesses, participating can boost financial stability, allowing for further investments in sustainable practices and innovative solutions.

In summary, it’s crucial for sustainable brands to engage in Black Friday thoughtfully. They can take advantage of the sales season to amplify their values, reach new audiences, and encourage more responsible consumption practices.
